paris - miu miu - fall/winter 2008

MIU MIU
only miuccia prada would dare to go where no designers went this season, athletic wear. a look that seems so far removed from the severe mood that was rampant throughout the collections for fall/winter. she started the show with an homage to the scuba diving suit. a good jumping point to miu miu, a label that is as known for its innovative fabrication as in its quirky charm. each look that went out had the initials of the models embroidered into the garment. a touch that would fly by those who doesn't follow fashion, but was able to get a couple of smiles from the audience. and speaking of models, the return of sasha pivovarova is almost news unto itself. but back to the clothes. despite such far apart themes from her epoynymous line, prada did show some coherent ideas. the skirt lenght stayed the same, and what was lace in her signature line became laser cut felt shifts that played on the idea of covering and exposed. the miu miu line is in many ways miuccia's playground. an outlet where she can explore her frivolous side but without sacrificing the prada intellect that everyone so closely watches.
