despite the obvious frivolity of his resort 2009 collection for the house of lanvin, alber elbaz never lost the heightened sense of sophistication and je nais ce quois he has injected to the once lumbering house. there is perhaps no other person in fashion who fully understands the relaxed and modern ease he has perfected during his tenure as creative director. to be able to combine that elusive french quirkiness and mass market appeal is the true redeemer of the talent that albaz possess. after a quite somber palette for his fall/winter outing, alber revisited the colours of provence for his most recent collection. the sparks of vivid jewel tones referencing the cuts of everyone from chanel's pyjama suits to vivienne westwood's take on anglo eccentricity mixed in with saint laurent prints made for a cohesive collection that despite of its abundant references came fluidly together under the hands of the humble designer. a brand like lanvin would be the obvious choice to succeed in the arena of resort wear. it is only the few and privileged that has the means to acquire an albaz creation. and there is no better time to indulge on the glamorous life than resort. and no better person to dress you for the occasion than lanvin.
