although fashion is a business of immense creativity, few can match isabella blow's originality, vision, and her clairvoyant ability for discovering what would become some of fashion's brightest stars. blow was credited for launching the careers of milliner philip treacy, hussein chalayan, models stella tennant, honor fraser and sophie dahl, and her most famous discovery, alexander mcqueen. starting out as an assistant to anna wintour in vogue, blow started her ascent to the highest echelons of fashion eventually becoming a fashion icon in her own right whose opinion was highly respected by her peers. her trademark eccentricity, ever present hats, and outlandish outfits that puts anna piagi to shame, hid to the most of the world her own personal struggle with depression. on may 7, isabella blow took her own life. even after all the beauty she contributed to fashion, it wasn't enough to lift up her spirits from the heaviness of her sadness.
